Maybe the new glossary would be a good place for this information.
FWIW, IDL stands for "Interface Definition Language". I might define it as "A model that Evergreen's software components use to understand how Evergreen's data are structured."
The documentation also sometimes refers to the IDL as the Fieldmapper IDL.

+1 to adding this to the glossary. Also, I'm not sure it's used as much in the docs, but in code and in dev conversations the term fm-idl is also used.
