What about any non-pcbnew based app like eeschema, gerbview or pl-editor? I suspect you have a python plugin which causes a crash.

eeschema, gerbview and pl-editor works like a charm.. Also, pcbnew works with no problem.

If I open up a blank new project, cvpcb works since there is no netlist. As soon as I add a component, annotate and open cvpcb, it crashes..

I have downgraded gradually through nightly builds until it worked. And finally, version 5.99.0-233-g363281dd4 works without problems..

Could be the same as Bug #1849289.
Please test 5.99.0-257 or later
