Bug Description

Would like to have the ability to disable touchpad altogether in System -> Mouse Preferences -> Touchpad. Need to ask user to confirm before disabling. This option is already in gsynaptics (Universe), but would be nice to have this option supported in Main repository.

Setting gnome-control-center as affected, since this is about the UI functionality.

Should this upstream work not make it in time, we have our own trivial patch which I'll upload to Ubuntu this week to provide the functionality in case.

Looking forward to patch. Will scrolling functionality be added at the same time? I still can't scroll with Hardy Alpha 4.

I can now scroll with latest Hardy update. Touchpad configuration tab is back, but still no option to disable it.

Stuff seems to be changing daily: I can't scroll anymore (and the touchpad configuration tab is gone) with 2/7/08 daily live image.

The X server input drivers are in flux at the moment, it will stabilise before Beta, have no fear :-)

What's happening is that your touchpad is being handled by the correct touchpad driver when it works, but a generic mouse driver when it doesn't.

Didn't see this option in Hardy Alpha 5. Where will it be? Under System -> Mouse Preferences?

Jose,

I'm not positive on this, but you may need to have the synaptics section
to your xorg.conf manually added for this tab to show up. Since
input-hotplug isn't finished, there is no other way for it to know.
