I guess darcs uses some mail-sending program to send mail, but the package doesn't depend on it. The package _does_ recommend the virtual package mail-transfer-

I suggest that you file this as a "wishlist" item upstream at http:// bugs.darcs. net/ after searching to see that it hasn't already been filed there. I'll be surprised if the Ubuntu project wants to do anything about this directly.
