Bug Description

When I choose Now font (https://fontlibrary.org/en/font/now - released as SIL) in Inkscape, I have following variants: Light, Normal, Medium, Bold, Heavy and as the first one (and one that causes problems) is " weight=250" (without quotation marks, _with_ space). I can't choose that " weight=250" one - other variants work fine. I checked the font file and it says it's "Now Thin" so I wrote manually "Thin". It worked.

Maybe it's problem with the font. I'm not into fonts and I don't know how to use FontForge on other font to correctly (!) change weight to test it with other one.

I'm on Inkscape 0.92.0 r15299 @Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks for taking the time to file a report!

Do you see " weight=250" in the font weight selector?
On Xubuntu 16.04, the first font shows correctly as "Ultra-light" in the selector (and in the XML file, font-weight:200 in the style attribute). (See attached screen-shot.)

Yes, I do. I attached screenshot. I don't know if it matters, but when I manually enter weight variant it works _both_ for "thin" and for "ultra light".

It's worse on Windows XP (32-bit), with Inkscape 0.92. The thin and medium fonts don't even show in the list.

Correction: "Thin" and "Normal" are not in the list.

When opening the Text and Font dialog, the console shows the following messages:
----
Warning: Font face with same CSS values already added: Now Light (Thin, Light)
Warning: Font face with same CSS values already added: Now Medium (Regular, Medium)
----
And in the dialog, the Light CSS attribute is mapped to the Thin face, and Medium is mapped to regular (see screenshot).

I'm having this problem with the Roboto Font in Inkscape on a Mac. I could choose Roboto thin in Inkscape 0.91 on my Window laptop with no problems. When I choose thin and click Apply it gives me the Light weight.

Closing as part of migration to GitLab. Issue is still being tracked in https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/283 and https://gitlab.com/inkscape/inbox/-/issues/156

I'm not sure if I have a updated version of the font Now (link now broken) but I can actually change to Now Thin, etc. in 0.92.3 ppa Linux Mint 19.1. However, the issue of non-100, 200, 300, etc. weight font variants still stands (it still applies to Roboto for example, see linked GitLab info for more recent tests).
