Bug Description

Annoyingly so I have recently found that the suggestions dropdown menu below text boxes is showing in the wrong place. And even if I click where it is shown, or where the item should be, it may only highlight the relevant option, but close if you try to click it. As shown in this screencast:

    Firefox_suggestions_dropdown_menu_shown_in_wrong_place.mp4

And am able to reproduce the issue on many different sites so I don't think that it is site specific.

I am running Ubuntu GNOME 16.10 with GNOME 3.22 and Firefox 50.

I initially reported this issue here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/firefox/+bug/1647198 But thought I should also do so upstream. More extensive system information and logs can be found at the linked downstream report.

Could you attach another screencast, this one is not playable in Firefox (and in WMP).

Are you able to reproduce the issue with old versions of Firefox?

I am able to play the screencast in my Firefox installation as well as the default Ubuntu player. So I think that it's probably an issue with your environment instead. Have you tried downloading it and playing it in a native player? MP4 is a very common format so you should be able to find some way of playing. If however you do not manage, what format would you prefer me to upload it in?

Yes, this issue showed up in a few of the previous releases. Though the issue is fairly recent. It just happens more in the later versions.

I'm sure my machine is fine, your video is corrupt probably due to the encoding during recording the screencast.

Can you use the tool mozregression to narrow down a regression range, please.
See http://mozilla.github.io/mozregression/ for details.
Run the command "mozregression --good=45" (if 45 is good or older) then copy here the final pushlog.

I don't think so, because it plays perfectly well in my Firefox and I imagine that I would have issues too if it were corrupted. Would you like me to try and upload a gif version of it?

Yes, I will have a go with that and let you know.

No, it's fine, I used an online tool to convert the MP4 into webm.

And about mozregression, did you use it to narrow down a regression range?
Any URL to reproduce the issue?

We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to review all reported bugs in a timely manner. This bug was reported some time ago and there have been many changes in Ubuntu since that time.

Does anyone still see a problem related to the one that was reported using currently supported versions of Ubuntu and Firefox? Please let us know if you do otherwise this report can be left to expire in approximately 60 days time.

Thank you for helping make Ubuntu better.
