LEAP doesn't obtain IP address

Bug Description

Usinig LEAP, the wicd tray tool just sits and spins on obtaining the IP address. At the least, it occurs on wicd versions 1.2.9 and 1.3.4 for both Ubuntu Feisty and Ubuntu Gusty.

I found the problem to be a syntax error in the file /opt/wicd/encryption/templates/leap.

The line "key-mgmt=IEEE8021X", should read "key_mgmt=IEEE8021X".

* Note the underscore. *

Hi,
Ubuntu 7.10 user, I upgrade from 1.3.1 to 1.3.8 and I can't get my IP adress, it loops for ever. I had to go back to 1.3.1 version. Any fix ?
Thanks ... sorry for my poor english ;)

In the 1.3.1 version the line is
"key-mgmt=IEEE8021X"

If you reinstall 1.3.8, run

gksudo gedit /opt/wicd/encryption/templates/leap

and change the line back to the working version ("key-mgmt=IEEE8021X"), does Wicd connect fine? If so, does changing that line to "#key_mgmt=IEEE8021X" work fine?

Hi Adam,
Thanks for your quick answer. Tonight I have to work I have no time to
upgrade ... because if wicd fails again I have to connect my laptop with
a wired connexion to reinstall version 1.3.1. I will try tomorrow
morning and let you know ... good news I hope ;-)

Great, thank you.

You can also keep a copy of the 1.3.1 deb handy, just in case - that way you wouldn't need the wired connection to reinstall.

Thanks again!

Hello again Adam,
Version 1.3.8 does not work ...
I have tried with key_mgmt=IEEE8021X key-mgmt=IEEE8021X and
#key_mgmt=IEEE8021X
.... I have noticed that the error message is (it was in French ... I
will try to translate) ... trying to configure WPA. I have a WEP key 128
bits hex
Back to 1.3.1 ... works fine
Thanks one more time to help me
Michel
