live usb won't install ubuntu on windows 7

ik heb een live usb-stick met ubuntu 14.04 geprobeerd te instaleren op een hp 530 met windows vista en op een eee pc met windows 7.
het lijkt er een paar keer op dat er iets fout gaat, maar dan komt toch het ubuntu scherm tevoorschijn. ik kan dan doorgaan met kiezen tot en met land.. toetsenbord waarna hij crashed met een disc foutmelding.
