Bug Description

I run Linux Mint 17 Cinnamon 64 bit on a Toshiba Satellite laptop (Intel i5 2.6GHz x 2).

When I attempt to run a suggested system update, a new Grub package is offered: 'grub2-signed' EFI AMD64 version 1.34.8
During installation the system crashes. I've tried this several times. It also crashed using the previous 1.34.7 version.
The last line reported in the 'Applying changes' box is: 'Installing for x86_64-efi platform.'

Then the system becomes progressively less responsive until after a few minutes also the mouse cursor freezes and only a hard reset works.

It would be really appreciated if someone could have a look into this. Linux Mint is great otherwise, wouldn't have anything else!

Thanks for all your efforts!

Roel

Same crap in Ubuntu 14.04 and later.
Probably related to Celeron N3xxx boards.

On three Shuttle XS35 V5pro machines (Intel Celeron N3050), running Mint Mate 17.1 during an 'apt upgrade' similar symptoms as above (system slowed down, mouse pointer stopped working).
(These systems are all remote, so I'm going by second-hand accounts).
Machine then rebooted/crashed, and would then only boot to GRUB. (This may be because the machines use LUKS to encrypt the drive).

I have one of the affected machines back, and can access the drive (although not boot it), so if there's any logs you'd like then let me know.
