Bug Description

I use Calibre to organise and Tag my Comics…
I presently use ComicTagger to create CBL tags for my comics, which I then import into Calibre using the CBZ format.
(The comicvine plug-in for Calibre is a little basic and has a low percentage of successful hits…
I mostly have to supply it with comicvine:12345 from the website into the ID field in Calibre!
Comictagger nearly always finds the correct comic!)

Calibre picks up the Tags sucessfully, but leaves me with one problem!
The Titles!
I only have the title of the Single Issue…

–I'd like to be able to alter and append extra information to the comic titles in Bulk!
like instead of "Issue Title"
I'd prefer
Series, Vol.01, #001 Issue Title
or
Series, Vol.01 Volume Title, #001
and changing each title one by one, is a bit time consuming!
I end up spending more time tagging the comics than actually reading them!
LOL

I also extensively use the Series Function in Calibre at the moment:
ie. I add the information like
Series, Vol.01 Volume Title

but half of my comic collection has now the title format:
Series, Vol.01 Volume Title, #001

So in order to achieve a uniform title scheme, I am either going to have to choose to just use the ISSUE title and use the SERIES field to store what Volume number and Series it is part of,
in which case I am going to need to edit all the Titles I already have, IN BULK! (change them all to just the single Issue titles)
plus maybe I will make two extra custom series column to indicate weather I have a single Volume (combining the issues into a TradePaperBack or is the Volume simply make up of separate issues?)
or continue to add volume information to the Title…

So either way, It looks like I am gonna have to edit a lot of titles in Bulk!
So I guess what I am really asking is,
Do you guys have any ideas how I can best do this?
…maybe even using the Search and Replace function to remove the Volume information from the titles might work?

*but really, the ability to append extra info to & edit Titles in the metadata, in bulk, would be a real TIME saver for the end user!*

Also the ability to append extra information to whole set of comics (in Bulk!) to the Comments would be great as well!
at the moment, you can only replace comments in Bulk…
which is a pity, it would be very handy, if I could for example, add the volume description & weblinks to a group of single comics issues that have a corresponding Volume…

I know its possible to re-download more comments using metadata download;
but each time I do this,
1. I have to edit the metadata download and tell it to only choose the goodreads plug-in to grab the VOLUME comments-ONLY and put the tick in the box to append that information to the original Issue comments, and then change all the settings back again (after downloading) so the next time metadata searches it will grab ALL the metadata! *which is too tedious to be practical…
2. you also have no control over the formating using this method, it just sticks it on the end…

It would be a LOT easier to say, select the 7 issues that make up the VOLUME, and then append the metadata comments in BULK, with said extra volume information that remains the same for each issue…
Plus, this way I would also get to edit the format this way and separate both informations clearly…

then each issue would have a issue description plus a Volume description!

Two points:

1) calibre already includes a Search & Replace feature in the Bulk Edit Metadata dialog which is fully capable of doing everything you need it to do. Use search mode: regular expressions and mode: append to field.

2) calibre feature requests and general usage questions should be addressed to the official support forums at: http://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166

The developer does not look at questions on OS-specific bugtrackers. The people who have used calibre so much that they know all the advanced functionality and cool things you can do... don't tend to hang out here either. They hang out on the support forums.
(The Ubuntu bugtracker is on the other hand totally the right place to go to get help with getting calibre to run using a distro package.)

Hello Dan,
Thank you for submitting this bug and reporting a suggested improvement with Calibre. You made this bug report some time ago and Ubuntu and Calibre have been updated since then.

Could you confirm that this is idea was implemented and that we can close the ticket?
If it is still outstanding, are you still interested in helping to get this feature added?
If you are, could you let us know?

Thank you again for helping make Ubuntu and Calibre better.
