Bug Description

Hello,

This is a minor bug, but I have noticed this in the 15.04 beta. If you try to add gedit your Favorites dock, it will appear there. After restarting the machine, however, gedit disappears. This has happened multiple times. Using the 64bit version of the 15.04 daily build.

Bump, I am experiencing the same issue, Ubuntu 15.04 + Gnome Shell 3.14.4.

Fairly easy to reproduce.

After logging in from a restart, I opened up Thunderbird, read Maximilian's comment, added gedit to dash, restarted immediately from the menu . Upon logging in gedit was gone. This also occurs if adding gedit to the dash and logging out and in again.

Read values with dconf :

dconf read /org/gnome/shell/favorite-apps : ['firefox.desktop', 'libreoffice-writer.desktop', 'org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop', 'org.gnome.gedit.desktop']

Gedit is set as org.gnome.gedit.desktop and the real desktop file is named gedit.desktop

As a workaround, I did :
frederic@home-desktop:/usr/share/applications$ sudo ln -s org.gnome.gedit.desktop gedit.desktop

and now it works.

Sorry, I mistyped the symlink :
frederic@home-desktop:/usr/share/applications$ sudo ln -s gedit.desktop org.gnome.gedit.desktop

Same bug here.

Fred solution works, but it is not optimal for users who use dash to dock extension, because it always run gedit in new instance on dock (dash), to solve that problem, simply rename gedit.desktop to org.gnome.gedit.desktop (should not matter really, it should work with any other name) from nautilus (or terminal), and then, run it, add to favorites, and all new instances should be under same item.

Only thing is, in order to run it from nautilus, you need to re-select "new" gedit, and it will work as fine and integrated as it should.

Same bug on ubuntu gnome 15.10. Additionally it is not possible to place gedit in any position other than second last when adding it to favourites by drag and drop. Further if you try to place something (say firefox) below it (when its is second last position), what ends up happening is firefox stays in place and gedit moves down to last position. After this has happened, gedit wont leave its last position (except if you remove it or the next part happens). Now if you move any other favourite up or down, gedit gets removed from favourites.

Gedit now can be added to favorite and stays the same position as where I put it on the latest 16.04 development release.
