When you have 2 monitors and change their ordes in the Displays config, after reboot their order is reset.

For those of you trying to fix the issue, Aaron Segner (asegner) commented that the following terminal command calls the saved settings:

gnome-settings-daemon --replace

Adding it to /etc/rc.local is a quick and dirty fix that works.

I can confirm this is also a problem with three displays. When I run "gnome-settings-daemon --replace" it does restore the proper order, but the main display is still set to the wrong one, and there is a virtual desktop larger than the actual screen resolution on one of the monitors. (I can put the mouse to the far right corner and all displays shift to the left, revealing a gray bar outside of the wallpaper.) I believe this is because I have settings in xorg.conf to compensate for the overscan on one of the monitors, but perhaps Pantheon doesn't recognize that.

I can correct this by opening NVIDIA X Server Settings, making some minor change to X Server Display Configuration to enable the "Apply" button, and clicking apply. I need to do this on each logon.

i got the same problem, i got two displays and in every reboot the order is reseted, uno monitor is vga and the other is dvi both plugged to a nvidia card (with the nouveau driver)

Seth, no it can't be implemented in elementary OS because that's a
hack/workaround. But we would accept a patch for whatever component is
broken if one exists.

Have you got the upstream bug report for this issue? That's where a patch
is most likely to be found.

Your question is very broad. Try this command and see if it fixes it:

gsettings set org.gnome.settings-daemon.plugins.xrandr
default-monitors-setup do-nothing
