Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

gnome-panel 2.19.5-0ubuntu5 in gutsy/7.10 moves when I log out and log back in. Sometimes the top moves to the bottom, and sometimes the bottom moves to the top. Both of my panels are *not* expanded, and the only way to move them back is to expand them, move them, then unexpand them.

Making ~/.gconf/apps/panel/toplevels/<panel>/%gconf.xml read only and owned by root does *not* prevent the problem. I've tried erasing all of the gnome config files in ~ and the issue still exist.

Since it doesn't seem to be a common problem, I think perhaps it only happens with unexpanded panels.

Another person seems to have already confirmed this problem:

I'm that other person who has this problem as reported in the link above. I'm using feisty - and have the same problem as described above, and in the linked thread.

For me, all I have to do is set the panels to unexpanded, log out, then log back in. The bottom panel usually moves to the top, though I have seen it the other way around. It does it with the 'original" panels as well as with newly created panels.

This was an upgrade system and not a clean install, but I've purged all of the gnome config files, so that shouldn't have an effect.

The problem didn't start until I customized my panels, so try moving some things around and changing the orientation.
