Bug Description
With web apps running on Trusty today, none of them have messages appear in the messaging menu. I currently have G+ with notifications and reddit with private messages, and no messages appear.

Justin: can you investigate further on that issue? Maybe use the --chrome runner option to load the webapp into a devtools enabled container for now and see if the JS hooks are able to catch the message counters.
