Bug Description

I installed a Hauppauge Wintv-HVR 1250 internal HDTV card running ubuntu 13.1 and Windows 7. My motherboard is a MSI H61M-P20 (G3), the built in sound card is a Realtek High Definition sound card. The TV card works fine in Windows but with Ubuntu I installed TVtime to use the card. The pictures great but the is no sound. I tried use the tvtime controls to raise the volume but its stuck at 0. All other sounds work fine including video playback. I aslo tried other apps me tv, myth tv and I could not get them to work. Myth tv I can not get the settings right and me tv does not see the card. I also tried an update version of tvtime made for saucy but I had the same issue. I would appreciate any suggestions. I also tried Kaffine and VLC and they did not work either.

I have the same problem with an Encore TV/FM card. I have Ubuntu 12.04, 13.10 and 14.04 installed on the same PC. TVtime works under 12.04 and the audio is fine, but it stopped working in 13.10 and now 14.04. There is no audio available and the application tvtime is not shown in the playback tab of PA Volume Control at the moment the tvtime application is running. The volume control bar in tvtime remains empty, when pressing volume up. The card uses a cable to get the audio from the video card to the audio input jack of the on-board audio chip-set.

Sorry, I solved the problem by replacing /etc/tvtime/tvtime.xml with the attached file. Seems that makes it work.

After installation the MixerDevice content was:

<option name="MixerDevice" value="default/Line"/>

the changed file contains the following MixerDevice

<option name="MixerDevice" value="hw:0/Line"/>

Sorry I did forget I found that patch probably years ago.

The attachment "tvtime.xml" seems to be a patch. If it isn't, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are a member of the ~ubuntu-reviewers, unsubscribe the team.

I have no clue what you consider to be a patch. I know the change worked for me. I think, it would work for many others too. But I selected the hw:0 mixer device instead of the default mixer device. I bypassed pulse audio, which is the default mixer device and directly used the alsa level. But I only have a vague idea about the audio architecture.

As an innocent user I would expect that tvtime works after installation, but it does not. I would expect that tvtime designed long before pulseaudio only works at the alsa level.
