Display Settings window opens itself after resume from suspend.

Does the display settings window still appear if you stop/kill xfce4-power-manager before suspending the system?

After running 'killall xfce4-power-manager' the problem still persists. So I assume that rules out the power manager being the cause of the problem, and therefore I haven't the faintest clue as to what causes it.

A-ha. I did a bit more research and decided to run 'killall xfsettingsd' and the problem went away. So it's a bug in xfsettingsd, but by no means is killing it a solution.

I found the problem to be in xfsettingsd and not the power manager, and 'apt-file search xfsettingsd' indicates that the daemon is part of the xfce4-settings package.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Got same bug. Compaq Mini 110, fresh install of Xubuntu 13.10.
'Settings Manager->Keyboard->Application Shortcuts' then remove XF86Display shortcut. It's ugly but worked for me.
Two things I figured out (may be helpful):
1. There are shortcut XF86Display defined which launches xfce4-display-settings application.
2. On the button lid switches this shortcut is triggered (OS thinks XF86Display key pressed?):
a) If suspend to RAM is enabled, it happens once at closing notebook lid (when lid opens xfce is still sleeping I guess);
b) If suspend to RAM is disabled, it happens twice (one at close and one at open).

The above solution works.

Andrew's workaround works for me too (Compaq Mini 110, Xubuntu 14.04)

Happens for me when I plug in my display port.

The window keeps popping up as well, so there will be tens of windows in seconds.

This also has other issues as if you long hold a key with the cable plugged in, sometimes your key entry will stop.

To reproduce: plug in the cable and hold down a key, like j.

Expected: outputs jjjjjjjjjjjjj.... indefinitely.
Actual: stops at a short period after.

I have HP Compaq nc6120 and on battery power, when i close the lid, it will open so many display settings windows, that my poor laptop crashes. When plugged in it sometimes shows the window after opening lid and sometimes with delay (10 -30 seconds). killall xfsettingsd, gives error, its not found.

Disabling the keyboard shortcut worked for me to. I am using Debian (9) Stretch (testing).

It is a HP Mini 1035NR (from around 2009/2010).

I'm experiencing the settings windows displaying every time my monitor sleeps and then wakes...

But, I'm also seeing my monitor setup being disregarded. My monitor positions and resolutions are reset to "default" values, and I hadn't even touched the xfce4-settings dialog.

Xubuntu 13.10 through 17.10 are EOL. Marking this ticket as closed. If you are able to reproduce in a recent supported release (focal, impish, jammy), please reopen this ticket or create a new one. Thanks!
