I use gnome-shell 3.8.1 in Ubuntu 13.04 as a desktop interface. "Attatching a screenshot of process while reinstalling software center." Thank you.

Can you try removing the following directories please:
~/.cache/software-center
~/.config/software-center

If that then works for you it may of been an incomplete data set that causes it to crash.

Please let us know via this bug one way or another many thanks.

Unfortunately, it didn't work... As you said, I tried removing the mentioned directories:
 ~/.cache/software-center
 ~/.config/software-center

But still, the same problem occurs. Also, the directories reappear.

Thank you for your support. I hope we will resolve it soon... :)

Can I ask how you installed gnome shell. Was it the gnome ubuntu iso that you used or did you do a standard ubuntu install and then add gnome shell?

Also was software-center included in the install or did you install that after?

I'm hoping that I can possibly reproduce the environment and see if there is a missing dependancy or is gnome shell and USC are incompatible some how.

I have the same problem running Ubuntu GNOME 13.04 + Gnome 3.8.2

First time after reboot I start Software center, it crashes right after launch.
Second time it launches and seem to be working OK.

Output from terminal on the first launch (which crashes) is:

This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadDrawable (invalid Pixmap or Window parameter)'.
  (Details: serial 1644 error_code 9 request_code 62 minor_code 0)
  (Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
   that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
   To debug your program, run it with the GDK_SYNCHRONIZE environment
   variable to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
   backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

Hope this helps someone :)

I had the same problem with software-center. Also Ubuntu-one and ubuntu backup had bugs. I removed the
~/.cache/sso/sso-client.log and all of these applications are now working.

Hi,

using this command in a terminal (open with Ctrl+Alt+T):

gksudo gedit /usr/share/software-center/softwarecenter/ui/gtk3/views/lobbyview.py

You have to search and comment the line in the file lobbyview.py that contains the following expression :
(to comment you've to put the character "#" in the begin of the line)

"self.exhibit_banner.set_exhibits([FeaturedExhibit()])"

after comenting that line, just save and close the file, and try to open the software-center - enjoy !!
