Bug Description

kernel: [ 843.301400] GnomeCC[8888]: segfault at bee9036c ip b6c97160 sp bf904fe0 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b6c21000+1a3000]

The problem that presents itself happens when one opens the sound settings in switchboard and tries to change the sound effects (scheme probably). He changes the effect to any on the list and there is no problem, but when he returns to the default effect, switchboard doesn't respond.

This is the exit in /var/log/syslog:

kernel: [ 843.301400] GnomeCC[8888]: segfault at bee9036c ip b6c97160 sp
bf904fe0 error 4 in libc-2.15.so[b6c21000+1a3000]

I have reproduced the problem easily. I just switched the sound effects a few times and the switchboard plug seemed to become unresponsive. Switchboard itself survived and I was able to hit the home button and return to the main settings page. The executable path that crashed was /usr/lib/plugs/GnomeCC/GnomeCC. I got an apport alert that I will report as I don't know how to include the details of the crash on this bug.

I couldn't report the crash because it wasn't an official elementary package (the package was switchboard-plug-gnome-control-center, so it obviousl is an official package), so nevermind about that crash data ...

Unfortunately these GCC plugs are just an unmaintainable hack that we're planning to replace in Luna +1 anyways. So marking as won't fix.

However if someone comes along with a fix in the meantime, please feel free to let us know about it :)
