JPEG printed-to-file as PDF is huge

Bug Description

Binary package hint: eog

There seems to be a lack of a good tool in GNOME for bunching scanned pages together into a PDF.

I thought that I could do it with EOG, then use pdftk to concatenate the pages in to a single PDF.

But the resulting PDFs are huge, many times the size of the original JPEG.

It seems that printing a JPEG to a PDF file in EOG causes the image compression to be lost.

Can EOG be fixed, or is there some other tools that's better in GNOME?

I ended up using OpenOffice but that's a too-big stick for the job really.
