Bug Description

After installing Ubuntu 12.10 + latest sputnik kernel (3.5.0.27), the touchscreen behavior still is faulty.
Multitouch gestures are completely ignored and Nautilus does not work, unless in list view.
Also, scrolling down does not work under chrome/firefox. It seems that the touchscreen driver doesn't emit TOUCH_END events.

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest v3.9 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag: 'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as "Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

I just installed the daily build of 13.04 (from 04-10-2013) and have the same bug.
On the log in screen the touch works fine. When I'm logged in I can do some touch actions e.g. start firefox, move the slider with the touchscreen and type some text with onboard, but after touching on a menu it stops working.

In addition to my previous post:
it seems not to be associated with touching the menus, it just works for some time or amount of touches and than suddenly has the touch_end issue or so. There are still some programs like onboard that stay usable.

I read something interesting; there seems to be a program name touchreset which is part of the per-installed software from Dell. As known, there are or had been also some problems with the touchscreen with Windows - changing the priority or killing and restarting touchreset would often help to make the touchscreen responding again.
Perhaps it would be possible to implement a reset-function into Linux which is than executed very 30 seconds or so.

Is there any work in progress?

No news here? It seems this bug has been completely ignored. Looks like there are no fixes in 13.04 either.

I installed the 13.04 final and also still have the problem with the touch-end or whatever it is.
Can you use the touchscreen again, after logout and than login in to unity?
I read that the brightness-bug should be fixed with the 3.8.0-20.30 kernel; let's hope they also worked on this bug.
I'm not that active on launchad, what about the people on the 'May be notified' list, is there someone who should be added to the subscribers? perhaps this bug is lost in the amount of other bugs...
