Bug Description

Artists and albums that start with either "The" or "A" should have those words ignored for sorting perposes. For examle, "The Beatles" should be with the other artists that start with "B", instead of grouped together with other artists that start with "The".

I'm personnaly not a fan of this behavior, because It's hard for me to find a song as I'm not an english native speaker.

This will also demand a database for every determiner from all languages.

Let's see what the design team say from this.

I know that Noise is suppose to be minimalistic, but it could always be made an option. That way everyone wins. Anyways I believe that this is the way most other media players handle it.

I'm personally +1 on this, but if I remember correctly, it is a regional issue (We've had this discussion before somewhere else). I know for my location (West Coast US), its standard practice to skip words like "The" when organizing alphabetically.

But how would such a sorting work?
My songs are almost all with names in English, but my locale is set to Esperanto. How would Noise know that I want English, and not Esperanto, sorting?

+Arturo:

Noise can just check for all articles that are part of the translations.

There is a string in Rosetta (Translations tab) with "The|an|…" that you can translate to what you want in your language, if your language don't use it, simply translate it into " " (a single space character)

Now I'm confused. The string is this one: https://translations.launchpad.net/noise/trunk/+pots/noise/eo/27/+translate
But the original English includes articles from English, French, German, and Spanish. How does this work?
