install (from USB) crashes

Bug Description

Configured the install to update via the net and install 3rd party apps. Crashes after if had gotten a majority of the way through.

This is likely NOT a duplicate of bug #998492. The system on which this error occurred is NOT an intel system. It is a Dell Dimension C521 with an AMD Athlon64 processor.
