Bug Description
As specified at [1], it should be possible to use javax.imageio.* apis for JPEG encoding. We need to evaluate if this is practical, without any loss of functionality and then patch batik source. This will make batik usable with more Free JVMs.

A version is available via the upstream bug which tests use of the javax interfaces.
