We discussed it at GUADEC and the application button doesn't do the same than the BFB. In addition, the proximity with Activities will be puzzling to the users and deviates from GNOME Shell upstream Dash experience. Setting as invalid.

Original Dash to Dock extension has a setting to move the Show Applications icon to the top of the dock, please implement this setting in gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock.
Ability to move the Show Applications icon to the top of the dock is especially important if we set "Screen position" to bottom in Settings window because now Applications icons moves to right bottom instead of left bottom corner, like in other popular Desktop environments (KDE, LXDE, Windows, MacOS X, etc)

summary: - Suggestion: Move the Show Applications icon to the top of the dock
+ Return the ability (setting) to move the Show Applications icon to the
+ top of the dock
summary: Return the ability (setting) to move the Show Applications icon to the
- top of the dock
+ top (or left) of the dock

Reopened because a third person has requested this today.

Didier's reason for saying "Won't Fix" makes some sense when the dock is on the left. But when the dock is on the bottom, the request makes more sense.

It's also worth pointing out this is a request for a /setting/ and not a request to change the default button location.

Thanks Daniel, nice to see some common sense to be used here.

One of the reason i ditched Gnome in the past is this attitude from the developers to impose their view on the final users and to not provide even a configuration option for those not sharing their view.

It made me feel like an Apple user...

You can move the Show Applications icon to the top/left by setting show-apps-at-top=true, as described here: https://askubuntu.com/a/966777/589052
