Can't delete file from desktop by clicking it and hitting delete key

Strangely, I am now unable to reproduce this issue. It was definitely happening before but isn't happening now. Don't know what's up.

This is now happening again.

I can't figure out what makes it start and stop happening.

It was just a few seconds before I captured the log, max 30 seconds, probably less than half that.

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

This bug still exists in Ubuntu 20.04. It's particularly insidious because it's easy to delete a file by mistake: if a Nautilus window has focus and you click on a desktop icon and press the Delete key, then Nautilus will delete the file (which you might or might not notice).

Hi! At time of writing, applying the patch results in moving the desktop file/folder to trash, but no difference with **shift+delete** (it also moves the file to the trash)

To apply the patch intermediately instead of waiting to the release of the updated package, you can follow this steps.

If you followed https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/158#alternative-solution, you may need these extra steps:

 - rm ~/.config/autostart/nemo-autostart-with-gnome.desktop
 - sudo apt-get purge nemo
 - sudo apt autoremove -y
 - sudo apt install --reinstall gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons

Then edit this two files:

 - In a terminal: sudo nautilus
 - Navigate to /usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions/desktop-icons@csoriano/
 - Open createFolderDialog.js with gedit or similar
 - Copy/Paste https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop-icons/-/raw/8ba06e3f456e211dfeace27bb27221cd375b65de/createFolderDialog.js
 - Open desktopGrid.js with gedit or similar
 - Copy/Paste https://gitlab.gnome.org/World/ShellExtensions/desktop-icons/-/raw/8ba06e3f456e211dfeace27bb27221cd375b65de/desktopGrid.js

Restart and you're done!

This bug was fixed in the package gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons - 20.04.0-2

Accepted gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/20.04.0-2~ubuntu20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-focal. I can't test because I've followed the instructions in https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/158#alternative-solution to switch to Nemo to address both this issue and https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-desktop-icons/+bug/1813441, which still hasn't been fixed.
