Bug Description

ubuntu 9.10
testing Avant Window Navigator 0.3.9-rewrite-bzr1801-karmic1-1
Gnome+compiz+emerald
nvidia 8800gts 195.xx video driver (also occurs with stable driver)

slick switcher python module fairly rapidly increases using resident memory.

Killing this process and restarting the module lowers the memory, but it slowly leaks until taking all available ram over time.

FYI, this applet is not part of the Awn project, but rather a part of the Awn Extras project, so future bugs need to be filed there.

That's why I marked it "confirmed" :) The developer's aware of the issue, there just hasn't been an actual bug filed about it until now.

Revision 1869 should help. It's not perfect and it does still leak, but hopefully it can be considered insignificant. However, it *really* should not leak any more if there are no changes (e.g. in window focus/opening or workspace switching or background image changing). There's probably more that I can do, but that's all that I can currently see. Please let me know how it works.

1869 isn't in the ppa just yet, but as soon as it does get there, I'll update and report back.

In 1873 the slick switcher is now leaking much less. It (on my system) starts at 43 meg resident memory and after a few hours of use climbs to a bit over 50 meg, but much MUCH better than the problems earlier.

well... for the 1943 revision It grows from 15MB to over 200-250 after a day or two of working.

Confirming this is still an issue. Not as "bad" as it was earlier, but the leakage still exists over time, and can grow extremely large if not killed and restarted.

This bug is still an issue under Ubuntu Maverick 10.10 with AWN version 0.4.0 and package awn-applets-python-extras version 0.4.0+bzr1372-0ubuntu3. In my situation, the memory leak would continually grow until it filled all available RAM and swap.

Adding a "me-to" to the switcher issue. Just killed the python thread that was over 168 meg in size.
