Bug Description

Since Ubuntu 13.10, when I launch audio-recoder in debug mode (-d) the RMS goes from -700,00 dB to -61,09 dB without sound.
See attached file.

It is annoying when I use timer commands.

Audio recorder version : 1.4-2

Yes, I can confirm the output. It is similar here.

Also the -d option does not always show the output because the command is sent to an existing instance of A.r that does not know about the terminal-window. A.r should restart and show output in all cases.

Thanks for your report.

I'm not sure the problem come from audio-recoder.
When I perform a recording with audacity without sound it appears some noise (see attached file).

In my mind this problem was not present with Ubuntu 13.04. Maybe a new version of audio driver?
Maybe it's a pulse problem?

I just performed the test on the same computer with a live USB. The problem is not present with Ubuntu 13.04 and audio-recoder 1.1.2.

I see the same thing on Ubuntu 13.04 with audacity maybe it only the freq sampling.

Same problem here with Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS and audio-recorder 1.4-5.

Even setting the volume threshold to -50dB does not prevent audio-recorder to start recording the -61.42dB noise
