Bug Description

When apport creates a bug report it already has details of the package, and other stuff. A link that would launch the browser with an appropriate search url could make it easier for people to see if their issue was already reported, or fixed.

This was something I mentioned to Brian Murray during his presentation, and he thought it was a good idea.

I agree. Apport should display a link or open the duplicate bug in firefox to be reviewed. The user should ultimately have control over whether or not he/she would like to submit a new bug after viewing the "dupilcate bug."

That's already implemented in Launchpad. You submit the bug report and see if there are duplicates.

launchpadlib does not currently expose the duplicate searching, so we can't implement this on the client side right now.

Just because it can't be done right now, doesn't mean it "Won't" be done sometime right? Subsequently I think it makes more sense to leave the bug open.

This release of Ubuntu is no longer receiving maintenance updates. If this is still an issue on a maintained version of Ubuntu please let us know.
