Bug Description

I am writing to grumble about the continuing annoyance of the totally hobbled Apport feature in Ubuntu, in this case 20.04 'LTS'.

Literally on a daily basis, the 'fprintd' fingerprint reader in my laptop causes some kind of crash, which results in the Apport dialog box telling me about the crash, and asking me if I would like to report the crash.

However, as I see explained at the following link, the crash reporting feature has been disabled, because any crashes in a 'stable' release are definitely "less important" or "not suitable for getting fixed" or because gathering them would be "insincere" because noone's going to fix them. Hence we have a piece of software that serves the developers but refuses to serve the users, and disrespects the users by offering to do something (The dialog still asks me if I want to "send" the report) but then silently doing nothing when "send" is clicked, and not even telling the users that nothing is being done.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Apport#Why_is_apport_disabled_by_default.3F

This is extra irritating because when I log into Launchpad to attempt to report my crash 'by hand', I find that my crash has not been reported by anyone else, and there is no way that I can see to extract all that useful information from the Apport dialog box so that I can submit it to the developers of the crashing package. I can't cut-and-paste or even screenshot the data, because it's all folded up and has to be scrolled.

Can I request that *somehow* Apport please be restored to being useful for end users when crashes occur? For example
* provide a cut-and-paste version of the crash report that can be selectively edited and manually pasted into Launchpad
* provide some 'expert warning' that warns 'novice' users away from uploading crash reports
* adding some pre-matching in Apport so that users are discouraged from reporting crashes that appear to have already been reported
* uploading all crash reports to an access-restricted server and then linking to that server in the Launchpad bug report; some suitable data-cleaning process could then be applied only if the package developers request the details for the crash in question.
* providing an 'expert user' pathway that users can follow to earn the right to upload crash reports
* remove the send button, but allow the crash report to be saved as a zip archive for later sending to developers, cut and pasting, etc.
