Bug Description

This bug is for tracking the upstream report.

On my Asus n20a the audio device works almost perfectly out of the box with snd-hda-intel (using the ALC663 codec). However, line in and microphone have very low capture gain. Audio does get recorded, but at a very low volume.
The output of alsa-info.sh is here: http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=188aa65fc63e27e709e2d7f20020d65a89cac0a3

I've reported the upstream bug against alsa 1.0.19. The state of the matter has not changed between jaunty's 1.0.18 and 1.0.19 though.

Did you perform the capture with or without pulseaudio running?

Very similar problem: Dell Inspiron 1525n laptop with built-in digital microphone. Worked fine with 7.10 and 8.04LTS. Upgraded to 8.10 and Skype stopped working. Fiddled with many settings and got it working, but digital mic input is so low, it's almost inaudible. This has been reported by many. Apparently, there was a mic boost feature that is no longer visible in alsamixer. I've tried several workarounds but none have been successful. For the last week, I've been trying Kubuntu 9.04 Alpha 6. It has the same problem.
